Effects on weight Increases in physical activty only produce modest weight loss (especially in women!), however, even
without reducing caloric intake, exercise will help trim waist fat and improve glucose control. If exercise is combined
with caloric restriction, more weight loss can be acheived, coupled with improved body composition. Resistance
training (weights) may be particularly helpful in sculpting the body.

in HDL cholesterol (the good cholesterol), reductions in triglycerides (fats in the blood) and blood pressure are greater
when exercise is added to reduced calories as compared to diet alone. This magnifies the benefit of your efforts!

Exercise Helps Prolong Life Large studies
have shown exercise helps prevent death in both men and women. This effect is greater the older we get. There
is more improvement in the risk of dying from all causes with mild exercise, but the effect is almost doubled with just moderate
levels of exercise. Heavy exercise does not improve the risk above what is attained by those moderate levels.
(Moderate levels is 30 minutes at least 3-4 days/week). This
effect becomes more pronouced the older we get. Indeed, in persons older than 65, moderate exercise reduces the risk
of dying by half!
Exercise helps you lose weight, keep it off, and take
it off your belly! - Exercise alone can produce some weight loss
followed by a plateau
- Exercise in combination with diet helps maintain
weight lost in both men and women
- Weight lost with exercise takes
more fat off your belly and increases lean muscle (which improves your basal metabolism)
- Multiple short bouts of exercise are as effective as a single stretch of exercise
- Adherence to an exercise program is improved when home exercise equipment is used.
